Raising Awareness and Funds for Healthworks Community Fitness this Black History Month

As we honor Black History Month, we also want to take this time to raise awareness for Healthworks Community Fitness, which is our non-profit dedicated to empowering women and inspiring children in Boston’s historically underserved neighborhoods.

With Healthworks Community Fitness, we believe that all women deserve an equitable access to fitness and health. Since opening our flagship center in Dorchester MA in 2008, Healthworks Community Fitness has served over 45,000 women who live and work in the Greater Boston communities.

According to the National Library of Medicine, Black women are less likely to be physically active and meet national physical activity guidelines than white women, and because of this, they are more likely to develop a chronic disease and have a shorter life expectancy. With Healthworks Community Fitness, our commitment is simple — we want to chip away at the health inequity gap and barriers to physical activity by providing quality programs and guidance that is accessible to all.

Working directly with community-based health resources to expand the scope of care for its patients, Healthworks Community Fitness currently operates as a thriving community fitness center that provides the highest quality holistic nutrition, fitness, and well-being services, helping its members prevent and manage chronic disease and their improve health while promoting well-being and empowerment for the greater overall community.

Our HWX instructors have volunteered their time to bring pop-up classes to switch things up over at Healthworks Community Fitness this month for the members there, and we are also thrilled to have a team of runners currently training for the 129th Boston Marathon this April, raising funds for team Healthworks Community Fitness!
