Black History Month Spotlight: Nia’ja Mack

It is a privilege to represent African Americans in healthcare.

Black history to me is the study and acknowledgement of a uniquely rich culture. It is paying homage to my ancestors for the resilience and strength they displayed so that I can live a life with equal opportunity. When we acknowledge black history and speak of its truths, good and bad, we abolish generational trauma. We create an environment where love and equality can truly exist.

I am a part of black history because I am a black woman.

I am a black mother. I am a black daughter. I am a black nurse practitioner. I live each day with a sense of pride because even though I am black and I am a woman, I am equal.

I am a gynecologic oncology nurse practitioner.

I provide care to women with gynecologic cancers such as ovarian, uterine, and cervical. I work closely with oncologist and give direct support to patients from the beginning of their cancer journey throughout the surveillance period.
