Mango Orange Creamsicle

Mango Orange Creamsicle

If you are a Trader Joe’s junkie like I am, you probably have a short (or maybe long) list of staples you can’t be without.

Trader Joe’s Frozen Mango Chunks would be on my list for sure.

I’ve been whipping up mango smoothies for my daughter since she was a toddler – sometimes daily. With the frozen mango, I don’t have to deal with cutting up a fresh mango (which I never seem to do correctly no matter how many times I see them properly sliced.) Not to mention, I prefer frozen fruit vs. ice cubes in smoothies – I think it makes for a creamier, velvetier (is this a word?) drink.

So, for #mangolove this month, I thought I take my usual three ingredient smoothie and give it a twist. I got completely crazy (not really) and added one more ingredient – orange juice. By adding in some oj, it totally took this smoothie to the creamsicle level but for only 215 calories (for 1.5 cup serving.) AND you get a hefty dose of Vitamin A, calcium, potassium and folate in each drink – all nutrients that are lacking in the average American diet nowadays.

Oh, and one serving also gives you over 100% of your daily dose of Vitamin C.

Not too shabby for something that tastes like an ice cream treat.
